ID:	609317 s.e. Minnesota surface find, way back in my rookie year. This was found on the river bottoms, within a rocks throw to the river, right in the middle of a flood prone area… picked ‘er up not knowing if it’s anything or not. I recently re- found it in a box of brokes and less desirables… shows minimal work, or, use wear.

Interesting one North, from some angles it looks like it might be something, from others not so much? Do you know what kind of material it is? I have a ton of slate here that breaks off into very interesting shapes naturally. With your creek stain stuff it's hard to tell what it's made out of. I would lean natural. But I'm just guessing. I'll be watching this thread to see what others think.

I can’t say what the lithic is, it does appear to be a hardstone of some type

I'm leaning towards natural . Don't dee it as being ground and don't see it as pecked or worked. Looks like natural wear and tear.

Call me ignorant but somebody although crude intended to use that flaked end..I can see it being used as a tool..if it was creek damage wouldn’t it appear elsewhere

My thoughts exactly… however, I think the business end is on the pointed side.. it does show a polish there… crudely made , yes.
A tool of sorts, I believe so… today it’s a tool, tomorrow maybe chuck ‘er back in the cigar box.
Thanks for the look Florida boy… stay safe and keep them G10’s coming…..🥶…. After below zero temperatures this last week, it warmed up to 19 degrees today… almost a heat wave… yup, tee shirt weather…..🥶

Maybe they used it as a wedge. Business end would be polished and the other end beat up
        Just realized the size

Interesting find for sure, I’d have brought it home myself. Hard one to make a guess at without it in hand, but the photos are good.

it's a cool one. I'd vote it's been a used implement.my feelings are it was a used N/A tool chipping is consistent with use. if it was creek chatter side's would be mared . just my take.

If I found that on a site I'd certainly take it for an artifact. Coming from a creek bed makes it a bit harder to call. It's shape seems intentional and functional. If it shows a little polish where it ought to, that strengthens the case. Minor damage consistent with use-wear, perhaps. I would have a close look with magnifying glass at polish areas.

I can only say that the piece started out as natural. It's a wedge shaped piece that was loosened from a stratified deposit of very dense sandstone. The pointed end has been heated, the red discoloration is evidence of that. The chipped end appears to be from indirect chipping, meaning the piece has secondary use. Possibly used around a fire to break something open, Maybe hard shell fruits or some type of vegetation. If you know what I mean. Kind of have to visualize something being heated to the extreme, and this piece used as a hammer to break something apart. The heating would then be incidental, just not on purpose. The long pointed end would serve as a handle, and the polish would just be from constant use and hand polish.
