  • Do we have a Member's Collection category? Lot of memory.......

If there is room for the memory/storage it would be nice for members to be able to upload pics of their collections. Would be good for local reference and a lot of fun to look at.

That's a good idea if possible.

I'm trying to invision this category, so like a couple photos of a collection in its entirety or maybe one thread dedicated to each active member that could be built by them? Every member who chooses to do so could create there own thread that would be placed inside a category called "member collections"? Is that kinda what you were thinking Tom? Seems simple enough if done that way and like a cool idea. I did something similar to that a while back but used Google+ collections and had it linked to appear in my signature section. I don't see why something similar couldn't be done much the same way with a link to a thread from the "members collection" category... It could be another way to personalize your own profile if you chose to do so.

I'm not usually in favor of storing anything elsewhere, especially like Cloud storage. But - I kinda like Tom's idea - especially since this site is the ideal site for an arrowhead collection display. I really think I might try it. However, I think we'd have to have some kind of limit on storage space. It's not like we want to store a separate picture of each point/blade/scraper etc. Like Josh says "a couple photos of a collection in its entirety" would probably be enough.

Kinda have to have multiple pics of individual items. Actual picture display is a lot smaller than what I keep pics at, and I hope pics are resized when uploaded. Would be real interesting to see all forms and processes of perfection, reduction, re-use, exhaustion in collections from sites/areas. Maybe link to a "cloud" storage site like photobucket though I'm not liking that one lately...

On some forums the members have the ability to upload pictures to their own picture gallery.
These galleries can be viewed by any other member who is interested in looking.
All you need to do is click on a member to see their info.
These galleries are also a looky but no touchy gallery.
Which means that other members have no ability to comment on or add to the gallery.
Something like that here would be a great idea Tom.

We can add that section but it's a hard to monitor it. for me I will add to my collection I sometimes add to it daily then there is the pics I can take around a room or do I take it frame by frame I have points that I want to show case where do you draw the line.
I have no problem adding that category but I think we should at least have boundaries
Look to the ground for it holds the past!

I don't know anything about how websites are built and constructed; consequently I don't know how much work/time is involved in making an addition to this forum and any formatting problems that it may create. I also do not know who would do the work. As far as basic concept of having a place where members could show off their collection, it seems like most of the comments so far think it may be a good idea. But after that the ideas scatter kinda like a pointer dog flushing a covey of quail. Like they say, "the devil is in the details". How to resolve the issue of exactly what this members museum should look like and what should be included looks like could be a problem in itself. And who does the deciding? Is it one person, two people or a committee? Perhaps, because of my ignorance in these matters, I am making too much of it. Whatever the case involving changes to the forum, I don't favor anything that would place a bigger burden on Hoss at this time. As to whether I like the idea or not. It is OK with me. But I would probably not visit the virtual museums. For me, there is plenty to look at and think about as it is
