  • Hemphill

    The Hemphill is a Middle to Late Archaic side notch point dating in the 3000 B.C. range. The base is concave with sharp to rounded corners. Distribution is Illinois, Missouri, and into Wisconsin although the Osceola point of Wisconsin may be the same point. Named for the Hemphill Site in Brown Co,. Illinois.

    Location : Illinois, Missouri into Wisc. Type site-Brown Co., IL. Associated with the Old Copper -and- Red Ochre culture.
    Shape : Side Notched
    Description:
    A medium to large size side-notched point with a concave base and parallel to convex sides. These points are usually thinner and of higher quality than the similar Osceola type.
