Stanford Chert
Found in Monroe, Lawrence, Greene, Martin and Orange counties.
Light to medium grey background matrix laminated with thin streaks of various shades of grey, white speckles (not fossils) are often present. Stanford is not known to have fossil inclusions, however blue-black pin-point size spots can be seen. Texture ranges from medium-fine to fine-medium and luster is dull to slightly glossy,
A crystalline line that runs through some beds dampers knappability, heat treatment darkens the material and it becomes glossy and finer textured.
