  • Plum Run chert, Ohio

Plum Run chert quarries are located in Mahoning and Stark counties Ohio.
No fossil or quartz inclusions observed in quarry specimens, specimens have a coloration of brown to dark blue when quarried and commonly green, yellow, tan, or a mix of all these colors as it weathers. also turning to a mauve, purple color.
From the book Prehistoric Chert Types of the Midwest by Tony DeRegnaucourt and Jeff Geordiady ""The predominant color of Plum Run is organish brown, pink, yellow, or rusty red. Freshly quarried pieces are blue and gray, but rapidly weather to an orangish-brown hue. The chert is often banded, streaked, or mottled. This type can look very much like some Flint Ridge chert which is a geologic correlate."
