  • Hingham Rhyolite (Massachusetts)

    Hingham Rhyolite (Massachusetts)

Deep red to purple banded red rhyolite, compact and almost flinty and contains scattered, dull yellow lenticular masses about half an inch long. Abundant small phenocrysts of quartz and a few larger ones of feldspar are scattered in the mass. Probably a rhyolite or a dacite. Found and quarried in outcrops south of Boston.
