  • Saugus "jasper" Rhyolite(Ma)

Often called Saugus Jasper, it is actually a variety of rhyolite. Found in outcrops north of Boston. One such quarry still exists on private property. It is very fine grained, with fresh surfaces being bright red. It patinates pinkish to reddish, with random cream colored banding. This lithic was discovered by and first utilized by Paleo hunters.

A triangle made from Saugus Rhyolite, and found in Rhode Island.
