  • Nantasket Argillite(Ma.)

    This variety of argillite occurred in shoreline outcrops south of Boston. It's patina varies from tan to green and pale olive. Often displays pale bands, sometimes called worm trails by collectors, and sometimes shows visible layering.

    These two pieces from RI show pale bands and visible layering. Note on the large broadpoint, a recent break along the edge shows fresh surfaces are black....

    Probable early triangle, from RI, showing tannish patina. Nantasket Argillite and Barrington Argillite may be difficult for collectors to distinguish at times.
