Occurs in the Burlington-Keokuk Formation of the Mississippian System. Keokuk chert derives from the Keokuk Section.
Ranges from fairly glossy to a rather matt dull luster, knaps fairly easy. A creamy white or pinkish colored chert with red spots in it.
