Crowley Ridge Chert, Arkansas

Crowley's Ridge extends north-south from Clay County to Phillips County. Is translucent cryptocrystalline quartz that comes in different shades of tan, cream, light brown, and yellow due to the penetration and oxidation of trace amounts of iron. Turns red when heat treated. A waxy medium to fine grained texture.
