I built a little wooden screen apparatus but i think I'm going to weld a bigger one, say 3X5 out of 2" angle iron and then get some strong mesh and just make it solid with four legs, not the shaker type, and then you can dump a whole wheel barrel full of dirt on it and then move the dirt around with your hands.

“A good archaeologist can use anything, right?” – Roddy Regan I received an email from “focus design” the other day, containing an advertisement for 21st Century Sifti…
Stoney Knoll sifting screens are built to the exacting standards required for field work in archaeology, paleontology, forensic science and law enforcement. They have been tested through years of service to provide optimal performance under the toughest conditions. Each sifting screen is hand-built in our family owned, coastal Maine, shop. The screens are comprised of select, clear, New England white pine. The screens are durable, though surprisingly light and easy to carry.
I have a couple small screens with wood frames that we use to screen sandy river bottoms. Has to be sand, not mud. If there's a camp on land, there will be things in the sand of adjacent stream/river bottoms.
