      You are so lucky to have such a dry area to search for artifacts Chase.
      Here that would be no more than a rusty smudge in the ground.

          They were using metal points up into the 1870’s and considering the find location (Colorado) it is most likely American made.

          Some of the Native made metal points are very well made and look quite similar to the classic trade point form. Back in the 1990’s a friend of mine and I were hunting the site of the 1869 Summit Springs battle in eastern Colorado. We found several iron points at this site but one of those he found had the classic trade point form that had been carefully chiseled out of a piece of thin flat iron. This Native-made point had not been finished as all the chisel marks along the edges were still present and therefore the point edges had not yet been sharpened.
