  • Can Anyone Suggest?

I've got a few vacation days left, and would like to go somewhere different (for the 1st time) for collecting. Does anyone know of public areas along rivers in Indiana, Ohio or Michigan that would be good spots? Has anyone ever been to the Patoka Lake area in Indiana? I know it has a lot of fossils, which would be cool, but worth the trip?
    Thanks! Rachel

Well, Rachel, I can't tell you any spots for hunting,
but the Glen Black Archaeology Lab and Museum in Bloomington, Indiana
is well worth a visit. You'll see some unbelievable artifacts from sites
    in that area.

Good suggestion Joe, You'll enjoy the Museum Rachel. Gives you a good idea of what's laying around this state.

Yes, I already know, no state or federal land to be used.  Maybe I didn't make it sound quite right.  I'm not asking for anybody's own special spot, just general info on what areas or rivers are accessible to the general public.
The Glen Black Museum sounds like a great idea.  For anybody else checking into it, it is closed until Sept (I think 25th) this year.
Has anyone been to the Eiteljorg Museum in Indy?  That looks interesting, never been there either.
          Thanks.

I used to have a cabin at Patoka.  I know there have been arrowheads found there but You'd have to boat to a place outside the State Park.  Madison Indiana has hotels and neat shops and wineries on the Ohio River.  I wouldn't think anyone would say anything if you walked the river bank.  Plus there is a casino near and you might be able to walk the river there.

You have to watch where and what rivers you walk, some fall under federal and or state jusidiction as navigable rivers, the other side of that is the land that borders the rivers and or lakes is most likely private property, so you need permission.
As to the Eiteljorg Museum, you could easily spend from a couple of hours or much more depending on now much you get into it. Not huge, but nice sized museum with good displays of Indian heritage, artifacts, etc. Worth it if your in Indy.

I don't know for sure but I believe Indiana has some very strigent laws on collecting.
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
