I mostly hunt creeks and rivers with a considerable amount of rock and clay in them.  Most of the spots I look for have some sort of anomaly that would cause the water to slow and drop some of the material it's carrying.  Bends, abnormalities in the banks, fallen trees, deep spots, and feeder creeks are all excellent places to start in my experience.
    Good luck!
