This Scottish Long Case clock was gifted to me by a life long friend. He had sold his Mom's estate and no lo0nger wanted this clock so he asked me if I would like it. I have history on this dating back to the 1920's A slip of paper giving the date of death of each previous owner. At some point I will create a brass plate and put it inside this clock case so it's provenance can continue on with it. This depiction at the top of the clock face is Bessy Bell and Mary Grey an old scottish ballad about two Bonnie Lasses that died of the plague . It was written in 1645 .

I believe this clock to be well over 150 years old. On the clock face I can make out H.Anderson Merchandine. 7 feet tallTN formerly CT Visit our store http://stores.arrowheads.com/store.p...m-Trading-Post

This clock was running before my friend dismantled it. It is an 8 day clock. The four men depicted on the face are famous 18th century poets. Except Scott who passed away in 1832 I believe The three others passed in the 1700's . I really would like to clean the wood. This was in homes over the years with wood burning stoves and smokers. All of that dry heat smoke and nicotine has done a number on the wood finish. I took off the hood to repair the door and one of the uprights on the side was loose so anoth repair there was due. Someone in the past had glued it with duco cemet and it was layered over and over because it just would not stick. I used water to soften the old glue and patience. Lots of patience. It is going to take some research and some time to get there but I will do it.Last edited by Hoss; 10-01-2018, 03:18 PM.TN formerly CT Visit our store http://stores.arrowheads.com/store.p...m-Trading-Post

pictures of the words on the clock face. I inverted the colors to try and bring out any underlying shadows. Anyone have any idea ? I thought that said Merchandine I am wrong for sure.TN formerly CT Visit our store http://stores.arrowheads.com/store.p...m-Trading-Post

Cool old Clock Matt!
There is or was a clock shop were a man refurbishes and sales old clocks in the antique district in Clinton. Very interesting shop with every kind of clock imaginable, coo coos and many old standup clocks in his store front. Next time your down this way you should check it out. Guy was really nice to talk to and very knowledgeable it seemed. Just letting you know in case you need a part or advice, that would be the place to go.Josh (Ky/Tn collector)

Matt that is truly a nice piece of history . I know you will be able to clean up the wood no problem . I actually have a Girlfriend that is a helecopter mechanic and she just loves to repair clocks . I know there are many like her out there that will have that prize humming . Love your idea about the plaque and keeping the history going cool .
Remeber the song we sang in school on the playground .
Ring around the Roses ? Same concept as the other song .
