  • Carousel Horses

I have had all sorts of interesting, quirky friends. Among them was Mel, 3rd generation very successful carnie(owner). Her grandfather was renowned showman, so much so local branch University has life size statue him front of Performing Arts Auditorium.

As may imagine, Mel well-traveled, with several homes in different states used as “winter quarters”. She loved collecting unique, artful things, and her big old 4000 sq ft house here slap-dab crammed fulla incredible things. You could not move one inch without your eyeballs getting stuck on something that made you audibly suck in air and murmur under breath …..”wow….”

She was killed in an automobile accident this summer, and the World lost one of its most remarkably and truly eclectic creatures. I visited her son and his father at her local home today, and wanted to share some carnival memorabilia. Alas, provenance of lotsa her other stuff died with her, but these exquisite carousel horses part of first exhibitions. 1st group miniatures for little kids; biggest one oldest, not one speck paint remaining beautiful wooden body or cart he pulls. Other tiny guys aging too, tho custodian swears only been outside for month:
