  • Does anyone know what this is

I finally got back out today after a nine week battle with COVID-19 and it’s complications and found this while looking for artifacts in the creek that I have been hunting this year I think it may be from 1800s made of wood with metal bands and leather handle

Good eye. Looks like a good match for a grease bucket 👍

Good job on COVID battle. You won !!! . As far as the bucket the first thing I thought of was a bucket that drillers used that can be lowered down a hole to test water . I’m probably wrong

I ran a scientific buoyancy test. Here are the results: Steel sinks and wood floats. Sometimes I jest can't help myself. (Not a spelling error)

Just saw a nicely made reproduction grease bucket this weekend. Should have snapped a pic. I never did understand why those buckets are so thick walled for the size they are.
