  • What is the civil war item in this display?

I purchase a civil war relic display from Goodwill (shocked to find it!) but I don’t know what the top brass item might be. I believe I’ve got a Union breast plate, an infantry coat button, another eagle coat button, four bullets and the unknown item… any ideas? Click image for larger version

The hook would be used to puncture a hole in powder bags used in the cannon. The twisted wire for clearing the touch hole. A pic of a similar tool 5th from the right. Just a guess

Goes to show that you never know what will pop up and where.

          Now that’s a nice score!!!
Most of the time they go through stuff and auction off stuff like this. Every now and then a newby puts something nice on the shelf and that’s probably what happened.

          Congratulations!

Id say to small for a cannon tool, But the same type of tool for his rifle. Breach pick and scraper.

The item in question is a cannon friction primer.

You have a complete cannon friction fuse.
