I believe the 97 is for the1897 arrival of the steamboat Portland with its legendary "ton of gold". 97 also shows on some of the postcards. :thinking:
As found and I thought nothing of it other than it looked older so I took a picture.
First cleaning and I saw the date.
Final cleaning and a registration number.
