  • Contrasting hunts.

I have said before that things are drying out here faster than I have ever seen before.
This is what it looks like here in Victoria in areas where there is no irrigation.
It's very easy if you want to play hide and seek in the long grass.

But with our clay based soil digging in cut areas is out of the question.

So on Tuesday I decided to do a park hunt for modern clad.
I reduced the sensitivity on the CTX and basically dug any target that was within 3" of the surface.
Yes that means I pulled junk.

But I also managed to put gas in the tank.

On Monday I hit the bush once again.
Maybe it's because of the mass of roots in the bush but I have noticed that it doesn't have to be deep to have some age to it.
All of these were either on the surface or just 2" down.

This is the second of these weird shaped lead things that I have found and I have no idea as to the purpose.

Speaking of contrasts both of these are dropped bullets but the effect of the saltwater on brass is obvious.

On Sunday I was back in the Gorge at a different location checking things out.
Mostly just recyclables with the addition of my 4th copper ingot.

One find did beg for it's own picture though.

There were multiple steam ships on the Gorge back in the day.

Including a paddle wheeler that was used for tourists circa 1908.

So identifying where this came from will be impossible.

Josh I believe that it is one of those ultra high pitched dog whistles.

I have tried blowing into it but get no sound so I can't tell if it is working or broken.  :dunno:

Cool stuff.    I was in Victoria for a day on an Alaska cruise a couple years ago.  Beautiful place.
