  • Road trip part two.

We had a very inauspicious start to a very lackluster day yesterday.
Being my turn to drive we loaded up the car and headed off full of hope.
But when the time came to board the ferry for the other side of the lake my car would not start.
For what ever reason the stupid thing had decided that it was tired, when it finally decided to co-operate we turned around and took Ralph's car instead. Once Sandon was reached there were 2 main objectives for the day the first of which was to try and find the location of the old baseball field. We did find what we suspected to be the right spot but it was a forest of devils club and being of sound mind we passed on this.

The second location was the site of Micheal and Eric's bottle dump. Someone had been into it before we got there as there was no glass left to be seen.
It was then decided to hunt the road side and a couple of the trails that lead off into the hills. During the mad rush to switch cars Ralph had forgotten to bring his headphones and now has a new forum name. Please welcome mister beeps, his one find for the day was a very unique antique frying pan specially made for scrambled eggs.

The only good thing about his extra loud detecting style was that it kept the bears away.
Micheal also wears a new forum name and it is sir yaksalot.
Micheal is a wealth of information and is always trying to add to his knowledge of any area we hit so is forever stopping to talk with any and every local we come across. One of whom gave us a sample of what made Sandon such a boom town in the first place.

For the benefit of those who like to see some of the area we are hunting this is a picture of Canada's longest continuously running power station.

Built in 1897 it has never once been out of commission even during the fire of 1900 that destroyed the town.

And this is a picture of the town as it is today.

So back to the day and the adventure. Here is sir yaksalot pretending to be part of the road maintenance crew.

And as odd as this style of hunting seems it does get results. Micheal came away from Sandon with two coins both dated 1900. The first was a very nice little nickel.

And the second was a farthing.

    After a light cleaning.

I am not setting any records on this trip but I didn't get skunked.

And here it is after a round of reverse electrolysis and a good tumbling.

The real fine of the day belonged to Mr Beeps. On the way back home Ralph decided to impress us with his cars acceleration and we got waved over immediately by one of the men in blue. Mr Beeps was impressive in how contrite he could be and he was allowed to continue on home with a warning instead of a $196 ticket.
