  • I like surprises.

    Well most of the time.

On Wednesday All jacked up to make some great finds I pull the gear out of the trunk.
And the battery on the CTX is totally dead.
I had forgot to turn it off the day before. Click image for larger version

Thankfully I do carry the backup battery pack in the car.
Once everything is all sorted out the very first signal,
before two steps have been taken from the car.
This was a nice little surprise. Click image for larger version

I have just placed the crest on top for the pic.
I can find no info on the maker though.
It is marked Keyes sterling. Click image for larger version

And then an almost overload signal brings life back to the hunt.
As soon as it was out of the ground I knew what it was. Click image for larger version

After that the place went silent for more than an hour.
There was not one diggable signal until this showed up just before I called it a day. Click image for larger version

Hey Bruce, I'm glad I am not the only forgetful one. I like the old gun oiler.

You must have an extra room to keep all your finds in.

Coach it is getting close to that point.
It is hard to decide what to keep and where to put it all.

Do you have any pics that you can share of the restoration?

should have taken a pic of the rifle when I bought it, the stock was spray painted red and all bluing was gone, went onto youtube for refinishing a stock/rebluing a gun, great information from them and this is what I ended up with

Thank you very much, it is hard to get ammo for this rifle, Norma still makes it for this rifle (6.5x 52). still hunting with my 25-06, but yes it is very hard to find ammo for this caliber

You did a very good job restoring that rifle. I agree, I would have loved to see a before picture. I would think a good chance to find ammo for that would be at a gun show. Is this the same round that killed President Kennedy by chance?
