Funky rings and cool things.

This is a combined Sunday/Monday post.
Sundays trash. And Mondays garbage. The combined recyclables. And a whole lot of deep knee bends. Did produce some funky finds.
A segmented ring and my first homemade copper ring. How's this for looking cool? Monday started out with a bang.
This was the very first target.

But the good feelings for the day went downhill soon after.
My 17" coil bit the dust.
When the mounting tab broke off. Thankfully I always have spare coils in the trunk.
At least I was able to carry on and pull this.
This is the absolute highlight of both hunts.
And as far as I am concerned this is better than silver or gold.

As found. This sweet WW1 collar tab will fit nicely into the display case.
When I got home I pulled the battery to charge it.
And this is what I see.
The CTX has not been in or near the water in over a month.

Bruce. I am glad to see the great things that you found but I sure hate to see what happened to your Metal Detector. I hope it is a quick, easy and cheap fix.

The “collar tab” looks more like a cap badge Bruce. You can date it fairly precisely since the 130th Battalion was authorized on 22^nd December 1915 as the “130th ‘Overseas Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force” and embarked for Britain on 23^rd September 1916 at Halifax, Nova Scotia on the SS Lapland.

Its personnel were absorbed by the “12th Reserve Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force” on 6^th October 1916 to provide infantry reinforcements for the Canadian Corps in the field and disbanded on 21^st May 1917. The 12^th Battalion then formed part of the Canadian Training Depot at Tidworth Camp in Wiltshire, England.

Their Canadian base was in Pembroke, Ontario (not Perth as indicated in the Wiki entry) so it’s still a long way from home, but I guess serving men enlisting in Ontario would have had family connections elsewhere.

You may be correct on the badge being a hat badge. However being only one inch wide and one + one eight inch tall I thought it more likely to be a collar tab.
