  • Gotta love those nickle signals.

Well I guess that I did a pile O digging on Saturday.
I spent around 5 hours at a popular spot.
And you guessed it, trash was found and removed.
The outright junk that people toss. Click image for larger version

And the bling that ends up in the dirt.
Some of it does get the heart pumping though when it first sees the light of day. Click image for larger version

    And the after shot.
Take note of the young queen nickle on the end.
Because that is what this post is all about.
On a side note I am still using the Excal and getting reacquainted with it.
I always say that you should dig all repeatable signals.
With the Excal though since I hunt in discrimination mode it is more often then not those missed signals that I am digging.
The first pass over our modern steel clad coins gives a burp/fart and then a total null on sound.
Those are indications that it's time to get out the pinpointer for surface drops.
At least that is how it is working for me. Click image for larger version

OK now that 1960 nickle had just been recovered when not 10' later I got another identical signal.
This one was only 2" deep but what the heck, dig it anyways right? Click image for larger version

Dang what a haul! Been trying my luck at the md around several old 1800's home sites but only old broken up plows and hoes mainly. Awesome hunt you had.

What type of detector do you use?

It's a Whites DMX I believe. or something like that. I hit on a good number of old shotgun shells and I found a ladys silver ring easily that she lost and ask me to find. Found a old 1920's dog license and other old junk but seems like a bunch of poor folks lived in the home sites I have been hunting. One will give up some good stuff sooner or later I hope. Thanks
