  • A little of this and a little of that.

The days are getting shorter and so are my hunts.
But I did manage about four hours on Saturday.
As always the inevitable trash was found. Click image for larger version

ID:	183892 And you all know by now that if I am posting something good was found.
The day started out with what I consider to be my best find.
But I am going to save that and one other till the end and let all of you pick the winner of the day.
I did manage one more silver to add to the count.
The area where this was found was highly mineralized and it showed the target at 8"
But this was hiding under about 3" of moss. Click image for larger version

ID:	183897 At this point in the day I had to hit the proverbial first tree on the left.
And as I was coming out of the bush I got a screaming high tone.
    My first two fer.
The large mens ring was sitting on top of the plug.
And the ladies popped out when I was putting it back. Click image for larger version

When I am searching for old and gold I don't concentrate on surface iron signals so the clad count is never really high.
But gas was covered for the day. Click image for larger version

It was at this point when I found my next good find.
There was a very mixed up and spread out signal.
This is a park so excavation is not an option.
Once the hole was opened I started finding a bunch of broken glass.
I originally thought that the signal came from the metal top of the complete bottle. Click image for larger version

I will get back to this one in just a moment.
The last find of the day was the most corroded brass key that I have ever found.
This is after reverse electrolysis and tumbling for the entire night.
Sadly it was not whole coming out of the ground. Click image for larger version

    OK it's time to vote.
The first keeper, and my favorite.

But after a lemon juice soak and gentle cleaning with a tooth brush.
I think that it is a Federal officers button circa 1830-1850

The object that was hiding in with the old bottles was in a similar condition as the brass key.
I tumbled it first then put it through reverse electrolysis and then tumbled it with a vinegar and water mix.
Boy I wish that I had taken before pics because the change was dramatic. Click image for larger version

Hey Bruce, Certainly some interesting finds from your hunt. My favorite is the double find of two rings. When he took the two rings and tossed them to the ground his girlfriend had a confused look on her face. Then he went down on one knee and proposed with a beautiful engagement ring. The new ring was gold and diamonds.

Very romantic Ron. I'm more inclined to think that it was a jilted lover who buried them together.
The only question is was it the guy or the gal who ditched them.

The hallmark is for Sterling silver from the London Assay Office, of a style and format used between 1916 and 1933 Bruce. The third mark is the date letter and it looks like it might be a Gothic 'm'.... which would be 1927.

Thank you roger. As always your eyesight is way more attuned to the little things than mine is.

Bruce that was a fantastic payout for 4 hours of work and that included getting paid to do your business.
