  • I made a bonehead mistake.

Sit back and relax. There is a lot here and I hope that I don't bore you all.
On Saturday I hit an area that I have been eyeballing for a while now.
And after 4 hours I had little to show for it other than this. Click image for larger version

I'm glad that I did because by the end of the day I had 2 more keepers. Click image for larger version

ID:	194071By this point in the day it is getting dark and the Battery on the CTX is showing low so I head back to the car.
When I make it to the car I can't find my keys.
I pat down my front pockets and my jacket pockets. Nothing.
I decide that there is enough light left to try and find them. No luck at all.
Facing a 6 mile walk home and not liking it one bit I call Jamie who I know was working somewhere close by.
As luck would have it he was still out and said that he would be happy to help.
I had walked part way to meet him and when he showed up I stowed the gear in the back of the truck and while getting into the front I did something that I always do.
I patted by butt to make sure that nothing was going to poke the seats. Click image for larger version

Super finds at least you did not lock the keys in car.

I enjoy seeing your finds. How do you clean up a corroding coin so well? They look great. What's the oldest coin that you have found, I once found a barber dime?
And you are not alone in your Homer Simpson moves. Once my wife and I took my parents on a paddle and after we got to the take out, I realized I'd left the keys in my dads car at the put in. Ouch, of course I set off on foot hoping somebody would pick me up, but that did not happen! I must have looked crazy running down the side of the road trying to thumb in rural NC, as most people wouldn't make eye contact and most actually sped up! Oh well I ran/walked the 7 miles back to the car.....and learned a lesson about keys. 😃

I used to hitch hike a lot when I was younger but I have to say that things have changed and people are no longer as willing to help.
I made a post last year detailing how I clean some of my ugly coins. http://forums.arrowheads.com/forum/o...that-ugly-coin
My oldest coin to date is a 1551-1553 English shilling and my second oldest is an undated Spanish silver. Likely from the 1600s. both of them were found up here in Victoria BC.
By the way I would enjoy seeing some of your finds.

Put or lay something down in a place you usually don't and episodes like you describe often happen. Nothing like another duh moment, especially as we get older!

Hey Bruce, I enjoyed all the great finds and really enjoyed you lost key story. Not as bad as the time I had to break the window out of my new pickup to get home.

Breaking the window on your new pickup would have been costly Ron. Knock on wood I will not have to do that any day soon.

I have totally lost count on the number of keys that I have found Everett. Thanks for the reply and I hope that you never get tired of looking.

Great finds! I've gotten into the habit of using parachute cord on my car key, wear it around my neck. Once though, I left my headlights on while searching a remote field... didn't end well.
