  • If it's not a bale seal is it still a lead seal?

For all of you Popsicle Pete types who have been cooped up and looking at my posts while huddled by the fire take heart because spring is just around the corner.
This past week I have been having fun coin shooting.
I have not been chasing those sweet signals that we all want to hear.
And if the keepers do come then that's all the better.
Gas has been covered. Click image for larger version

Head scratcher. Almost looks like a seal pup. Does the hole go all the way through ?

No Matt those "eye holes" are very shallow. The black is embedded dirt that I left there to add contrast.

I could only hope and wish on a star to find a bird stone.

          Hi Bruce

          T
he depiction on the religious pendant is of “Bhudda” and that’s also a Bhuddist prayer wheel on the back. The face is uncharacteristic… but if that unusual long nose extending beyond the mouth and the curved things each side of it actually represent an elephant's trunk and tusks, then it’s “Buddha as Ganesha”.

Ganesha as a God is regarded as “the remover of obstacles” and crops up in both the Hindu and Buddhist faiths. He’s usually easily recognised by having a full elephant head, but it’s not uncommon for the personification of Buddha to be depicted as one of the many Indian gods and consequently having a combination of human and animal features. Ganesha should also have one tusk broken and the other intact. If those are tusks depicted on your piece, it does look like the right hand one is shorter/broken.

The lump of lead looks like the kind of anti-tamper seal you might find on heavy industrial equipment such as pumps, meters and boilers. Maybe there’s some intentional humour here on the part of the maker that it’s a “seal” in both senses of the word?

Thank you for the explanation Roger I just checked it under a loupe and they are indeed tusks and one is definitely shorter than the other.
Your thoughts on the lead seal are as good as any other my friend and I like the idea that some one included humor to the piece.
