During the early part of this week I have decided to stay close to home even though I do have the new detecting chariot
What I have been doing is going over old ground with a whole new approach. .
This area has produced many nice finds for myself and others in the past.
And should hold a few more goodies either deeper or hidden below the crap.
Tuesday was when I decided to use the run silent run deep tactic in this particular spot.
And not long after starting, one of our new members (Jeff) on my other forum showed up out of the blue.
Jeff is a nice young man just starting out in detecting and did not yet have a pinpointer.
Nor did he see the need for one, that is until I lent him a spare one of mine.
He has now ordered one of his own.
I had chosen this area of the park to hunt due to another member (Ronald) wanting to meet up and have something cleaned.
When he arrived I explained to both or them that targets in this area would be few and far between.
And suggested that the three of us move over to an area I had not hunted as extensively.
Not a whole lot came out in this new area.
I did manage to hit the 100 mark for the year with this though. And a funky puzzle ring. It did not straighten up very nicely though. After they had both left I went back to strip mining.
And since there was not abundance of really good targets I finally broke down and started digging pull tabs.
Have I ever mentioned how much I hate digging pull tabs.
Since I am still using the smaller 5 X 10 coil and not the 17" beast it has been baby steps for me.
Move one foot 6 inches, swing the coil, move 6 more inches and swing again.
Repeat repeat repeat ad nauseum
I have to say though the 5 X 10 just loves the nickel based coins that the stock coils pass on.
Wingnut can mean many different things to different people.
I use it this time as a description of crazy and mixed up. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=wingnut
I had a target under the coil where the tone was a mix of both high and low.
This was not the usual high tone and iron grunt, it was more of a mellow low tone.
And the CTX had a hard time settling on a depth.
It finally chose 6" as the stronger signal so I dug the plug at 5"
The brass wing nut was sitting at exactly 6"
The prize however was at 3".
