  • I learned a few things.

The first of which is to never give Daniel the advantage.
He popped over to the island on Thursday to help out with the fun hunt.
And we obviously needed to get in some dig time.
The first place we hit was almost a bust.
The grass was better than three feet tall and swinging room was very limited.
I did make one interesting find before we ditched this place for better hunting grounds. Click image for larger version

ID:	250563 However as always I was wrong. It seems to be a vintage thermometer holder. https://picclick.com/Vintage-Metal-C...272290842.html Anywho as soon as we hop out at the next spot I realize that I left my digger where that thing was found.
I had extras in the car so we hunted for a bit until worry got the best of me.
Before leaving I pointed out an anomaly to Daniel.
The grounds that we were working had been back filled long ago and one tree had a pit (almost moat like) around it that was better than three feet deep.
When I returned not more than half an hour later Daniel showed me his find. Click image for larger version

ID:	250564 Can you guess where it was?
In the pit of course. Right were I pointed to.
When we got home for dinner I learned something else.
It is easy to straighten rings if you boil them.
    Yup. Boil them.
A few minutes in hot water, a bit of work on the mandrel, reverse electrolysis, some tumble time and and voila. Click image for larger version

ID:	250567 Friday was a busy day for the two of us however we did manage 3 hours of clad hunting.
I did not bad pulling 20 odd dollars and Daniel did great pulling 26 bucks.
His pile is on the left and mine is on the right. Click image for larger version

The amount of money that is in/on the ground is truly amazing...

When you detect in any park it is impossible to not find coins.

His method of heating it in boiling water made the difference Matt. My method of cleaning put the sparkle back on it. Click image for larger version

The ring really did do well. I actually did a little detecting tonight, looking for a metal rod I lost. I didn't find he rod, but got lots of hits. I didn't dig up any of them. LOL
I was kind of on a mission. Maybe next time I'll dig. I need to get a pin pointer before I get serious though.

A lot of the old school detectorists detest using a pinpointer. They think of it as cheating, can you believe that?
As for me a pinpointer is an absolute must have tool.
I hope that you find that rod Gary.
