For years now I have been asked numerous questions about cleaning finds.
Do you separate your stuff?
Do you tumble the pennies with the rest of the clad?
How long do you tumble your finds?
Why does your brass look better than mine does?
The list goes on and on but you get the idea.
This post covers 2 days.
2 beaches, 1 ocean and 1 on the Gorge. both of which are saltwater beaches.
And 1 short small park clad hunt.
The last picture in this post will show all of the recyclables from both beaches.
The majority of this post is about the one on the Gorge.
This is what it looked like when I dumped the pouch out at the end of the day. When stuff comes out of the Gorge it is usually covered in crap so the first thing is to hose it down.
Once that is done I sort out the obvious trash and put it straight into the garbage.
Then things like this log dog get special treatment.
In this case it was a few love taps with the hammer to break off most of the rust. After which everything else.
And I do mean everything else.
Gets tossed into the tumbler. Add some water, toss in the white aquarium gravel and a dash of dish soap. Button it up, then sit back and let it roll around for a couple of hours.
After 2 hours it is time to take a look. I take out the lead and glass items.
As well as anything else that is done enough. Now that there is more room in the tumbler the next step takes less time.
After 1 hour I crack it open. And inspect the clad.
