He had made the trip out from Saskatchewan.
And he could not pass up the chance to try the Gorge.
So I loaned him my Excal and a pouch and away we went.
The incoming tide drove us off the beach after around three hours.
And this is what our pouches produced when they were dumped out. Click image for larger version

As you can guess most of it went into the recycle bins. Click image for larger version

John, a friend from the UK uses a term that is very appropriate for metal detecting.
    Partifact
    What is a partifact?
Well that is when you find only part of an artifact.
Sometimes you can take a wild guess at what it was originally.
This (because of the red) was likely a Royal Canadian Mounted Police rider and horse. Click image for larger version

Any ideas on this one guys? I am at a loss here. Click image for larger version

If you are really lucky there are times when two items found in different areas actually go together and make a whole piece. Click image for larger version

I am saving the bottle though.
If I ever find a proper top it would make a fantastic sea salt holder. Click image for larger version

As you all know, saltwater is a bitch on metal.
This pewter cup with BABY written on it is an example. Click image for larger version

He immediately gifted it to me.
My intent was to pass it along to Micheal as he is a true lover of militaria.
However it turned out to be far younger that we both thought Click image for larger version

ID:	259514 As we wandered down the beach the targets became fewer and fewer.
The lack of targets got to Odie and he made the statement that he was going back to the area we had wandered away from.
Not one minute after he made that announcement this showed up under my coil. Click image for larger version

Can't tell if those are emeralds or tourmalines. Kind of think the latter.

Emeralds or green sapphires. I am not sure yet.

Bruce - ya always have interesting posts and finds. I'm having quite a dry spell here on the mountain and maybe I should give some thought to detecting as a hobby. Unfortunately I'd probably find a treasure trove of shotgun shells, aluminum beer and coke cans and .30 and .50 Cal rifle shell casings. Not much traffic up here for rings and stuff like you find. Nice collection though. As always, thanks for sharing with us.

Finding crap is far better than having a dry spell Chuck. And you never know what you will find. I have a friend who was detecting in the hills and finding exactly what you described. Shotgun shells, 22 and 303 casings, pull tabs and beer cans. He kept at it and ended up with the find of his life. It was a 1901 Barber S quarter. I suggest that you Google it and see what the value of that one find was.

Bet Rose was very unhappy to lose her emerald ring. Wonderful find. I'm amazed how much stuff you find.

At 2 1/8 inches tall it seems a little big for a beer stein finial but I suppose that it is possible.
