  • Dribs and drabs.

This past week has not been overly productive.
I have manage to get a keeper on most days except on Sunday.
Five and a half hours of searching on Sunday produced a total of $1.72 cents, .52 of which were pennies.
Last Tuesday say one silver sailboat show up on the plus side. Click image for larger version

An hour into the hunt I was drenched to the skin having decided that the day was to nice for a jacket.
At least I picked the first of two humming birds. Click image for larger version

ID:	268444 On Thursday I had the pleasure of hunting with the Brothers Grim.
Jamie came out to play in the dirt first and that is when this came out.
For obvious reasons my first thoughts were that it was plated. Click image for larger version

So I cave it the same treatment.
Reverse electrolysis first and then an overnight tumble in a vinegar and water solution.
Rough treatment like that is guaranteed to wear away any plating.
I took it in to have it tested the next day and yes there is gold in it.
    6K to be exact.
Really, 6 freaking K, who the heck makes any gold item that cheap? Click image for larger version

My old knees decided that enough was enough and I headed home.
Friday was almost as disappointing as Sunday was.
After four hours of swinging the coil there was $1.25 in the pouch and that included a loonie.
I decided that enough was enough and was on my way back to the car when I spotted these lying in the grass. Click image for larger version

Hey that is 40 knee bends finding pennies.
So why not pick them up.
Well the detector gives off a beautiful high penny tone just as I turn around.
    This ain't no penny.

Saturday was the best day for this post.
Once again I was out swinging the coil and Ronald came out to play in the dirt.
He was working on one side of a pond while I finished up on the other.

After running out of swing space I joined him and proceeded to find my oldest flat button.
It certainly didn't show a lot of promise at first.

After cleaning though it is from the uniform of the East India company.

There is no exact match for it but I think that it falls inline age wise with the 1835 East Indian one quarter Anna that I found a week ago.

That last sailboat was kinda special though.
This year is Canada's 150th birthday
And in honor of the 150th that sailboat was my 150th for the year.

It's like exercise right, but You aren't liking it lol. Carrying a machine around is maybe reason enough You wouldn't wan't to carry more stuff, and if You are hauling out trash because Other's aren't and You wan't to d a good Thing. What I am getting at is maybe an easy reach grabber Thing.. Heck if I was picking all that up My back and knee's would hurt too. Good Coin haul and is that a Compass?

Finding things with my detector has gone beyond a hobby for me Josh, it is now a full blown obsession. Over the last five years I have also learned to abhor trash. I don't seek it out but if it is there in front of me I will pick it up.
What item are you thinking is a compass?

Nice native ring Bruce. Even though finds are sparse, you still managed the keepers

Thanks Eric. My goal has always been to find one item for the collection every time I go out.
It is getting harder to do, but that just adds to the challenge.

Gotcha. That is a ladies powder compact. Probably from the 30s or 40s.

Thank you Johnny. You know it is funny, when I first started detecting the silver coin count was all that mattered. And for many guys it is still that way. Maybe it is because I am older than a lot of guys out there now, but my focus is on the personal items that are lost.
Personally I was just as happy finding that cheap pewter hummingbird pin as I was finding the 1899 silver nickel.

That made me laugh Everett. I suspect that "brain damage " is why I do this in the first place. :-)
