  • Procrastination all done.

This post brings me totally up to date including today which I took off as a rain day.
This past week has had it's ups and downs.
Some days were a total bust and others, well lets say it was a stretch to find something good about them.
However, things were found sand I am bound to share them with you.
The compulsion to share my finds is just about as infectious a disease as detecting is.
Well picking up where I left off in the last post is easy.
On Monday stuff was found and some of it was good.

Now the same can not be said about Tuesday.
I went to an area in a park that was withing 300 yards of where I have found multiple silvers in the past.
So you would think that this area just might have some possibilities as well.
    NOT A FREAKING CHANCE.
There were scads of pennies at 4 inches and tones of aluminum blobs at 6 inches.
Not a damn thing deeper nor in between.
Here is the stretch part of this post.
Gas was covered and the place is safer because none of those needles had the protective caps on.

Thursday was looking like it was going to be called on account of rain.
Right around mid day though Colin called to ask if I was out (he had been sent home on account of the rain).
Well, he dropped by the house to chat and we decided to hit a nearby park to kill some time.
The park was not doing either of us any favors and since the rain had stopped I asked if he wanted to walk a beach for a bit.
He was game and the tide was down so off we went.
The second hole on the beach brought the sun out for me.
Finding militaria makes me all warm and fuzzy.

There is one find there that I could use some help with identifying.
I have never seen a lead toy soldier with articulated arms and head before.

Friday was a dig fest on the beach.
The tides were just right and the stuff was there for the plucking.
I had to call it a day though when my pouch could hold no more.

Some of it was even keepable.
The lamb is the fourth lead toy from this particular beach.
I wish I knew the maker.
The markings on the bottom simply say "copy right Briton made in England".

The silver ring turned out to be interesting.
I knew it had a frog on it but I never looked closely until I was editing this photo and noticed the two snake heads.

Do any of you guys like finding old razors?
This valet auto strop razor is one of the best that I have found.
For giggles and grins I poked around the internet today looking for the same razor.

The keg tap key being so clean and shiny bothered me quite a bit.
So I used reverse electrolysis to re age it by turning it completely black.
Then it was tumbled for a bit over an hour to bring out the highlights just enough.
And I thought that some of you might also want to see the reverse of the 1898 Vickie one cent.

Yesterday I had promised myself a return to a place I affectionately call marble beach.
And I had stepped foot on the beach not more than 2 minutes prior to getting a phone cal from Marty.
He had seen my car parked and stopped to see where I was.
Since he was not outfitted for mud walking he trundled off to another spot while saying that I was more than welcome to join him.
Well You can't walk this beach without at least looking for marbles.
So I grabbed 6 and headed out.
Sunday had no real treasure in store for me but detecting with Marty was fun.

Wow Bruce that's about a pickup truck full there. I see its harpoon season again also. It looks like you found a lot of brass. That bird band still attached to the leg bone is very cool. Is that a bird band to the left of it also? You can look up the origin of those bands. Is that a tuning fork on the bottom right of the 4th pic down? Lots of cool little trinkets in that haul...

I wish that it was a bird band Frank. Those things are so very frustrating to find. The first thought is obviously wooo hooo a bird band.
And then reality sets in and you realize that it is just another plastic bag tie. Click image for larger version

I do have 3 verified bird band to my credit though and 2 of them actually are still on the bone.
The top one belonged to a hawk that was banded not far from where I found it.
The big red one is a mystery. I have not been able to find a registry for this type of band.
The tiny one would have been for a hummingbird but seems to have been dropped before it was used. Click image for larger version
