  • Are our parks garbage dumps? Or are they piggy banks?

I am taking a rain day here on the west coast today.
So I thought that I would share my finds from the last four outings.
Trash, both modern and old is everywhere.
Thankfully most of what I dig is recyclable. Click image for larger version

Unfortunately spendables are actually harder to find than trash.
But it is there if you have patience.
$37.12 does put a nice bit of gas in the old beast. Click image for larger version

My biggest disappointment this time came in the form of a brass lion pin.
When it was found I texted my guru of all things Canadian military this comment.
"Have you seen anything like this before? When I found it the other day I thought that it was modern junk. Now I am not sure what it is. Could this be military?"
And I sent him pictures of this. Click image for larger version

    He replied.
"I am reasonably certain that it is military. I have seen the lion on British and Scottish badges."
Well after coming up empty on google searches for any matching insignias, I took another picture of the back of it for posting.
And finally noticed a faint back mark of it. Click image for larger version

Under magnification it reads Hindu Taiwan
I guess that it was modern junk after all.

My preference is for scotch whisky but beggars can't be choosers so pass the blue.

I do like it too. I just wish that it had been a military collar tab or hat badge.

That is a heck of a photography show Bruce. Love the post, and it’s too bad that lion wasn’t something more.. still cool
Can’t find em sitting on the couch; unless it’s in a field

Gas money is always a good thing. I often call what I do, "digging through history's trash can".
I'd take the rain today... snowing in Ohio,

      Thank you Tim.
I agree with your statement of "digging through history's trash can".
Some of the old stuff is really interesting to find. And there is the old adage "One man's trash is another man's treasure."

Like Baba said anywhere where is free rein for dumping, some nice finds on coins and always enjoy your post Bruce.

      Thank you Johnny.
I can understand finding trash dumps along country roads or deep in the bush but in our modern parks is not something I ever expected to find.
