  • Silver Salt Shaker / 5 Pieces of Silver

Checking some spots today I noticed a metal salt shaker that had my eye before.. No rust, odd, into pocket. After a little clean up it turns out to be silver.

That brings my total silver finds to five (counting two dimes).

I guess I should take Bruce's advice and get a metal detector.

Nice find fldwlkr! I think Bruce is right you need a detector. I just started detecting after finding a home site on my family property it's been very enjoyable. Wonder if the pepper shaker is there also?

I might have to go back and scrounge around for the pepper shaker and little toothpick holder that probably came with the set. This particular "midden" is from the poor side of the tracks. Has me wondering if it wasn't nicked from a wealthier home back in the day.

Awesome! I can't believe you eyeballed that. I can't even find a silver coin with a detector. Must be my locale.

That is a silver lid to a cosmetic jar. Thought it was aluminum until I noticed the sterling mark.

Etsy has a couple glass dresser jars w/ these lids. Art Nouveau style... so I'm thinking somewhere between 1900 and 1930. That time period would fit some of the other stuff I pull from this ditch.
