  • More Silver from the guy w/o a metal detector

Stopped by one of my ravines after a frustrating day of used car shopping. I was looking for some calm and maybe a bottle or two. Some interesting brokes but nothing complete. A shiny thing caught my eye but it was just a quarter. An 1899 quarter that is! (Old man doing the fist pump !!!)

This is how it came out of the ravine and I'm amazed it is this clean. Beginning to think the spirits want me to buy a metal detector.
    Thanks for looking, fldwlkr

Me thinks you should listen to the spirits! That's a sweet find!

On the flip side, I've been metal detecting for three years at my house that was built well before they stopped making silver... haven't found one silver anything yet...

Silver holds up pretty good out there. Found a 2 reals back in the 80s and could not believe how well reserved it was.

Hate to sound like a novice, but now I have to research "2 reals".

found with no detector in a farm field Woodbury CT . back in the 80's On the reverse at the 8 o'clock mark is an M with an O over it. That is the mint mark for Mexico. next to that 2R for 2 reals. it is the size of a US quarter. Prior to the US having it's own mint we used coinage from around the world. A friend of mine found russian coins in his back yard. It is amazing what is out there waiting to be found. Click image for larger version Name:	wy123.jpg Views:	0 Size:	119.5 KB ID:	428670

Beautiful 2 reale Hoss. Never found a whole one yet. Just like fldwlkr's find, kind of equivalent to digging for a target and finding a point. It happens but it is rare.

            Nice find.
You do know after a frustrating day of talking to used car salesmen the best place to find a bottle isn't in a ravine?
