The crops are thick so I'm out scrounging the ditches for whatever catches my eye. This button popped out while I was probing a bank with a stick.

I have a few of the "Great Seals" but this one is a bit older. The backside has The Art Metal Works Newark markings, placing it somewhere between 1902 and 1930. Maybe W.W. 1 ?

Nice collection of buttons and other pieces, the button on left of horse tag looks like the person polished it to many times and removed some of detail.

That might be from me trying to get the years of crud off of them. They look pretty nasty when I first pull them from the muck.

Yep, WWI. That's a nice find! A soft BRASS wire brush will clean the front up well. That's how I clean my buttons.

I watched a video today, dedicated to the over 2,500 men who died during the final hour of WWI. It was very sad.

Tim, you are doing almost as well by eyeballing the goodies as I do with a detector.

I don't know about that, Bruce. Nobody has written about any of my finds yet. Not sure how much help a detector would be in this particular ravine. There is so much crap just beneath the surface as it was a dump for many years... it would be a constant tone and I already have tinnitus.

Any decent detector with give different tones for different types of metal Tim, and you can choose to bypass certain types like iron if you want.
