Does the soldier have any surviving family members? That could be a special gift, if they care about their history. I'm not saying you don't have a right to keep it. 😊

I've been searching for family. it seams to be a dead end. still looking though it's a special peice and would like to return to the family.

Looks like your medal is missing the ribbon loop and a hole was drilled to hang as a pendant. Amazing piece of history. Here’s a pic I found of a complete example

metal detecting. we found some pretty cool stuff back in the 70's and 80's. the medal was found at the old fort site. which is now a old school. that has been turned in to a museum.
