  • Spotted Edwards

The great variety is one thing I like about the Edwards Plateau Cherts. There are different colors, some have stripes, and some have spots. This morning i started with a 5.5 inch rock. I got several nice spalls that will make good points. Today's point is a 5 inch knife.

Where is that lithic from? That is a great blade. What are those specks in the material?

Nice work Ron, you got everything that rock had to offer looks like. Those inclusions are pretty neat, kind of different than anything I can think of. It would make a dandy knife! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Josh, The chert is glassy and translucent but those black spots are opaque.

Thanks Josh, It is actually a lot more translucent than i could show today. I had to use a lamp because it is overcast here.

direct percussion is still my knapping nemesis.
i just cant get them thin enough to look right unless i make smaller bifaces

but indirect i can do well with and make large bifaces

      good luck with the percussion

Thanks Tim, Some of my percussion blades are a bit thick but then the large ancient knives that I have are pretty hefty too. I have some big Texas artifact knives that are super thin: I hope I can match those some day.
