  • Kinda Primitive Toggle harpoon head

I decided I wanted to make one’a these the other day spur of the moment. Between watching all those TUKTU videos and I just started reading The Swordfish Hunters, I’m on a salt water thing kinda kick.Anyways, I used a coyote leg bone for the toggle, the point I had knapped out awhile ago outta my local argillite and set it with pitch resin, Click image for larger version

Very cool! I wouldn't mind doing the same thing one day by taking a point that I found(because I don't know how to knap anything) and getting a handle made for it to show an example of how they used to be.

In my defense I bet if he had a dremel he’d a used one too, lol

                I like it!
I have played with pitch resin a bit and was never really happy with the results until one day I dusted the hafted area with more ground charcoal dust. It seemed to not only make it less tacky but also seemed to help the resin really lock up and hold the head.

The trick is to not overheat your pitch while preparing it or it’ll be too brittle in the end
