I knapped this 3 3/4 inch Dove Knife from a Texas Root Beer spall. The two pictures were taken about ten feet apart: The first one was in direct sun and the second in the shade of the birch.

Thanks Tim, This piece has different shades in it. I didn't really see any concrete though.

Ron - That's awesome work as usual. But it's the lighting that has my interest. It's utterly amazing what the right lighting can reveal or hide and the color changes dramatically as well. Also - I have a Dovetail or rather I should say my Granddaughter has a Dovetail she found here on the mountain - if you remember that one. Very similar to yours. Nice work Ron.

Thanks Chuck, When I knap a point I'm thinking, "If this had an ancient patina would you be happy to pick it up?"

You betcha! You just come up here on the mountain and drop that dandy on my logging road and see how long it takes me to pick it up. Well - maybe I'll send my Granddaughter out to find it first. :- o

I just love looking at te flake patterns of both real artifacts, and knapped ones. Different lighting can change the look on one piece drastically as seen in the photo. Just love that flake pattern!
