  • Edwards Knife / Humerus Handle

I showed the knife blade earlier. It's Edwards Plateau Chert. I knapped a long stem (1.75 inch.) The handle is the larger half of a Whitetail humerus. I used pine pitch glue for the haft and wrapped it with rawhide.

Wooooow! Killer! Nice color to the bone. Did you stain it somehow? When I saw the title, I was trying to figure out what kind of wood Humerus was. Duh! Bone! My biology teacher would be ashamed of me, lol!

Thanks Ethan, I used two colors of stain to get that look. I used mahogany and black.

Thanks Jay, This is the first time I have used a Humerus: I have used the Tibia a few times. I like the curve of the Humerus and will save them in the future.

How did you prepare the bone? Did you skin it, then do something else to it?

Hey Ethan, Two years ago I put it on a foot high ant hill and let the ants clean it. I Collected it last year and dried it indoors for a year. Then I did a little scraping with a knife.
