This stuff is not easy to work with at all. It is the only real local lithic capable of producing razor sharp edges, just by fracturing. It's probably close to being as sharp as obsidian, but it is really hard, and takes a lot of percussion. I haven't found the right tool for pressure flaking it, antler doesn't seem to work well....
It's a great feeling when you break a piece just right or drive off the flake you intended. I can definitely see some of the hidden appeals of flint-knapping now that I've spent some time trying to figure it out. Here are some of my ongoing pieces that are unfinished. 3 will hopefully become arrow points, and the other 2, shaft scrapers/arrow knife- If I can avoid destroying them.
