  • Hornstone?

My mom recently visited the Kentucky/Tennessee border, and found some rocks that she thought might be knappable (I know, it ain't a word). Anyways, I made this little archaic style point from a difficult piece. Is it Hornstone? It's a pain to flake.

It's what I would call, "field grade".

I don't think it's hornstone, but don't what it is. Hornstone can have all kinds of issues that make it hard to knap, but toughness isn't one of them. All of it I've ever seen was fairly easy to flake.

This was very tough to flake. I don't get it. It looks so smooth, so easy, but it's a pain.
