I honestly don't understand how the Native Americans lived along the Eastern Seaboard, with all of the crappy material. It's a wonder they made good points sometimes. I've seen some of the ones to come out of Virginia, and they are chunky things made of quartzite, quartz and ryolite. -
The knowledge was passed down from generation to generation and they had a lifetime to get it right.
