A few chunks of hixton I have found, would you guys think there’s any possibility of making points out of these… I believe them to be cores…✌️

Question for the knappers

Are these from near the stone source? They look like quarry rejects. Which doesn't necessarily mean it's bad material. It's like if you need a few two by fours and go to the lumber yard where they have a big stack of them, then you sort through the pile to pick out what look like the best ones. The ones you pass by are okay, but when you have an abundance, you pick out the best of the best.
The only way to know if the material (any material) in knappable is to knap it. Only by tearing the material apart do you find out what's inside. Everyone thinks knapping is a tool making process. Really what it is is a testing and refining process, which then leads to making a tool, if the material is worthy.
Good Hixton essentially knaps the same as good "flint" and any experienced knapper can work it. I suspect that even the "lower grades" would be luxury material to someone like me who routinely works this nasty East Coast quartzite.

The simplest explanation is that there is another, unknown source, much closer. If they did really get it from that far away it should be high quality material. Obviously these were smart people who knew the material better than any modern person ever could so if they hauled it that far it must be worth the effort.
