    looking good

cant wait to see more of it

what caliber is it going to be?

what wood do you use for the stock?

    smooth bore or rifled?

brass or iron furniture on it?

    and finally

do you make these just for your self or do you sell them also?

been wanting to get myself a flinty.

Your's is a quickly disappearing craft Daniel. Like many of the highly skilled artisans of the past - too many are replaced by automation and mass production. Having a handmade Flint rifle would be the ultimate for just about anyone, like us, who are into preserving history. Please show us more of your work Daniel.

Wow ! Now that is retro ! That reminds me of the Lewis & Clark expidition. They had a Spanish made repeating air rifle that scared the NA people with accuracy and repeating ability. The air rifle was one reason they were successful ! JJ

Hello again. Apparently there are requests for more pictures. The previous pics are from a rifle I actually finished 2 years ago and I am just "learning" how to post pics. Here are a few pics of the finished product. This rifle is .50 cal. flintlock with a late English type of lock, double set triggers and hard Maple stock. ..........Hope the pics work............Daniel

that is a sweet looking flinty
                  nice work on it

now i dont know all that much about the authenticity of them so i have another question

were adjustable buck horn style sights original on them,or is that just how they are made in the modern era?
that all i see on them when i a look them up on line on places like Track of the Wolf etc.

I put that buckhorn on it and then didn't like it so I made another simpler sight and that is whats on it now. Also the barrel on that rifle has now been "browned".

                      brown barrel,now thats cool.

.50 cal just makes it that much better.

my dad hunts with nothing but flinty's. has three different ones. 2 .50's and a .32
one of the .50's is modern but still a flinty, the other two are traditional flinty's
he has taken many deer and a several bear with them.

like you,he built his trad flinty's himself

hes now in the process of finding some good, old rod iron to forge a barrel by hand for his next one.
hoping once he gets the metal he teaches me a little about black smithing.

Here are pics of the Curly Maple stock on my latest build. I just rubbed a bit of alcohol on it to pop the grain. You have to imagine a dark stain on it....................Daniel Click image for larger version

I was just talking about working with wood the other day how satisfying it must be . The smells , the hand and eye connection of satisfaction and artistic completions .
