I wouldn't be digging craters if I had a specific tool called a pinpointer. The ones made by Garret and Fisher work the best. All you have to do is dig a small plug, put the pinpointer in the hole, and it tells you exactly where to dig, instead of guessing.

I stumbled onto something big today! The Confederates that were camped less than a mile from me were not guerrillas, but the 54th Virginia infantry, one of the best regiments in the Army of the Tennessee! I have found several photo's and biography's of it's members. Now I need to research the 117th Ohio, and GET PERMISSION!
