  • Primitive bow and arrows

Fat wanted to see some of this stuff, some bows and arrows i have made. I haven't hunted with this stuff in a while but did a little this year. When i am in hunting stand i get to thinking i could be doing something else and leave shortly. when i was serious about hunting i had a couple of close shots but never killed a deer with my bow always did better in the practice stand with the 3 d targets.
the bows shown are the green one, a hickory long bow with yucca leave backing. The middle one a hickory Flat bow with eastern Diamond back snake that was long enough to cover bow. and last bow is an Osage orange snake bow, always wanted to make a bow with character.
The arrows are splined for my bows and the green and yellow fletching is not quite primitive but helps to find them better. Knapped points, heated and straightened river cane. The quiver is a red oak bark tanned deer hide turned inside out. Click image for larger version

Believe it or not but it is a good shooting bow.

Thanks alot. Those all are great.
            That snake is really neat.
I have an osage bow I love but never had any luck with home made arrows. There always broke.

What were the arrows made from and if they were river cane they have to be harvested at certain age.

I’m not sure but I’ll be on the lookout and post when they appear.

Beautiful craftsmanship willjo! I need to start working on a hickory stave that I set aside for drying. Finding the time is the problem.
