  • THE GREAT AMERICAN RACE

well its that time of year again
    NASCAR SEASON
the GREAT AMERICAN RACE,THE DAYTONA 500 is about to start
now i know im not the only one that watches it
so who do you root for in NASCAR?
me i have always been a Jeff Gordon fan since he started in NASCAR
but i am also a fan of Clint Bowyer and Kevin Harvik since they first started in cup series
so i would be happy if any of them were to win today, but would really like to see it be Gordon as its his last season before he retires from the sport

                the super bird
now that was a true race car
back in the day,in order to be used on the track for nascar. the factory had to produce something like 500 vehicles for public purchase.
the ones on the track were exactly like the street versions. the teams that would race them would do things to the suspenion and engine systems for better performance.
i just heard Buddy Baker on sat radio the other day talking about the super bird. he was one of the first to drive it on the track.
the original ones didnt have such a tall wing on the rear deck. after his first test with the car he told chrysler corp. that the thing didnt handle well. they then redesigned the wing and made it taller. the two upright post of the wing worked like the tail on an air plane.
when you would go into a turn the air going past the upright posts would help pin it to the track and make it turn easier at high speeds.
one of my favorite production cars that was actually made for the track was the ford torino talledaga
